INSV Tarini all women crew meets PM Modi after 254 Days Voyage |

Indian Naval Sailing Vessel (INSV) Tarini which completed its historical circumnavigation voyage and reached India through its Goa harbor meets PM Modi who congratulated them on the success of their mission.

The all women crew of INSV Tarini travelled through 5 countries namely Australia, New Zealand, Falkland Islands (UK), South Africa and Mauritius covering 22000 nautical miles in the 254 days long voyage. They achieved this feat by completing all the benchmarks of circumnavigation by crossing the Equator two times, crossing all Longitudes, and also the three great capes namely Cape Leeuwin, Cape Horn and Cape of Good Hope)

The crew was welcomed by defense minister Nirmala Sitharaman who had flagged them off on 10^th of September last year

 The first-ever global circumnavigation by an Indian all women crew titled “Navika Sagar Parikrama” was headed by Lieutenant Commander Vartika Joshi, and the crew comprised Lieutenant Commanders Pratibha Jamwal, P Swathi, and Lieutenants S Vijaya Devi, B Aishwarya and Payal Gupta.

 “We knew at the very start of this voyage that we had a daunting task ahead. However, the many challenges we encountered brought in a new found strength from within, which we ourselves never knew we were capable of. Our close bonding helped us overcome those difficult times,” Skipper Lt Commander Vartika Joshi was quoted as saying on her return.

In the felicitation ceremony after their arrival, the defense minister had hailed the crew members by praising their grit. She termed it as an achievement not just for women but an inspiration for all Indian youngsters striving to achieve their goals. The ceremony was also attended by naval chief admiral Sunil Lanba.

 Admiral Sunil Lanba, Chief of the Naval Staff said, “The grit and determination displayed by these young women officers would definitely encourage future generations to take on daunting challenges and strive for success”
